Welcome to the Wirth lab homepage! We are part of the Department of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering at Cleveland State University. Our work focuses on the interactions, dynamics, and assembly of particles in colloidal suspensions and at fluid-fluid interfaces. In particular, we seek to measure and exploit weak ~kT scale interactions between anisotropic colloidal particles, including carbon nanotubes, Janus particles, or ellipsoids, and subsequently leverage this new knowledge for implementation in a broad selection of industrial, engineering, and scientific areas. In addition to doing fundamental research, we anticipate working with the coatings, specialty chemicals, biomedical, and oil & gas industries on the development of innovative new products and tools.
